FriendsOnTheRange is a dance and concert band that has performed in Minnesota and Wisconsin since 1996. Jim Ganahl plays accordion, concertina, trumpet, and didgeridoo, and he teaches the dances and sings lead vocals. Carol Booth plays piano and sings backup vocals, and she calls most of the dances. Joey Kenig plays acoustic guitar. Joey Lee plays flute and pennywhistle. Susan Hoppe plays fiddle. Melissa Long plays clarinet and saxophone. | |
| FriendsOnTheRange plays Irish and American music for group and couple dances including jigs, reels, waltzes, polkas, schottisches, contra dances, circle dances, and playparty games. Jim and Carol have both learned the unique skill of playing a tune and calling a dance at the same time. They provide friendly dance instruction for dancers of all ages and abilities, and they design their dance programs to meet the special requirements of each group of dancers. With a change of hats FriendsOnTheRange can also perform a complete program of cowboy songs. |
