Saturday, December 31, is the date for the Fifth Annual New Year's Eve Dance Party at historic Petrell Hall. Pot Luck Dinner begins at 5:30 PM. Dancing begins at 7:00 PM. Live music and dance instruction will be provided by FriendsOnTheRange. No experience is necessary. All dances are taught. Singles are welcome. Tickets at the door are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors. Children accompanied by an adult will be admitted free of charge. Petrell Hall is a beautiful log building located on County Road 353 (Brimson Toimi Road) in Brimson, Minnesota. This family friendly event is definitely one of the best and most enjoyable ways to celebrate the coming of the new year in northern Minnesota. More information is available by calling 218-848-2622.
The annual Irish Dance is scheduled on the Saturday in March closest to Saint Patrick's Day. Dance instruction is provided at 7:00 PM. The traditional Irish Ceili (kay-lee) Dance begins at 7:30 PM. The group dances are traditional Irish jigs and reels (including the Siege of Ennis and The Haymaker's Jig and The Waves of Tory) performed either in circles or in long parallel lines. The couple dances are traditional Irish waltzes and polkas and hornpipes. Throughout the evening, during the breaks between the dances, the band provides additional entertainment by playing traditional Irish ballads and airs.
